defiant
This tiny bird would not move. It sat in the middle of a sidewalk even as I edged close to it with my boot, even as schoolchildren touched it. I went to look for a park employee but the only one nearby could not leave her shop. I used my sleeve to pick it up and put it gently in the grass out of the way of traffic, and I feared for its safety. Before I left a duck pecked at it, and as I yelled at the duck, the little bird flew off to a tree. Cheeky thing!
